Clay courts to open soon! Currently the target date is Sat, May 11th.
There are 4 Har-Tru (green artificial clay) tennis courts available to the public at no cost, on a first come/serve basis. The courts are located across from The Little Theatre and are maintained by The Friends of The Spa State Park. We ask that players limit their play to 1 and 1/2 hours when others are waiting, and sweep the courts when play is finished. Please be aware that the courts are closed daily (from 2-3 PM) and watered automatically.
Our annual spring clean-up day is usually on the 2nd Saturday in April. We welcome volunteers to join us for an hour or two, help prepare the courts for the summer, and maybe have a hot dog off the grill. The fall clean-up day is usually the 2nd week in October, unless the weather permits us extend the season.
GREAT NEWS!!! We are pleased to announce the award of a $75,000 grant from the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation to convert the adjoining hard courts to Har-Tru for a total of eight clay courts! Because it is a matching grant we successfully raised an additional $75,000 through generous donations. Construction is now currently under way, and we’ll continue to post updates regarding anticipated completion of our project
This fantastic opportunity will improve what is already a beautiful setting for tennis. With less waiting time during peak hours you will be able to arrange a game confident that courts will be available.
We encourage those players who have enjoyed use of the current courts to consider a donation that will contribute to this exciting new phase of Spa Park tennis. You can pick up a donation envelope at the courts (look for wooden box on the main gate), stop by the Administration Building, donate on our website or mail a check to 19 Roosevelt Drive, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
**Please check calendar on the web site for dates and particulars, the bulletin board on main gate of the courts, or call the Administration bldg, 584-2000 for questions.
TENNIS COURT PROGRESS
Come back to check pics on the progress of the new courts. Approximately 40 to 50 truck loads of crushed stone and crusher run (base) have been delivered to the courts. Crusher run is a mixture of crushed stone and stone dust which is the foundation for the new courts. They have cemented in supports for the new net posts with hopes to put in the irrigation system next week.
Had a crew of about 10 people help paint the fence for the new courts on June 8th. Had as much paint on ourselves as the fence. About half way done.
